Plot[]

Previously...

Vitani got up, out of Pride Rock, and went to a meadow. Here in this field, she could see the stars clearly. On this night, they were very bright and beautiful.

Vitani sighed to herself. Suddenly she heard a voice behind her: "Vitani?"

It was Kopa. She turned around to see him. "I'm surprised to see you here," Kopa said. "What are you doing up?" Vitani asked.

"I couldn't sleep." Kopa answered. "Neither could I," Vitani said back, in bewilderment.

Kopa sat down next to Vitani. They both looked up at the stars. "Those stars sure are pretty," Vitani thought aloud. Kopa nodded. "My father used to tell me when I was a cub, that all the great Kings of the past are up there, watching over us."

Vitani gazed in amazement. "All those are kings?"

Kopa smiled. "You see that one over there?" He "pointed" (with his paw) to a very bright star. "That's Mohatu, the first king of the Pride Lands. He's the brightest star in the sky."

Vitani looked at Kopa and asked, "You remember that after all those years away from home?" Kopa nodded sadly. "Sometimes I would look at the stars, the nights when I was by myself, and I'd always see Mohatu's star first. That reminded me of my father every time."

Kopa was looking up at "Mohatu" now in fascination. Vitani was, too. "I used to wonder if Scar was up there. So did Kovu."

Kopa sighed. "I'm sorry your father was so cruel. I heard about him a long time ago."

With her ears back, Vitani replied, "He wasn't my father. He was just..." Kopa looked at the sad lioness with sympathy. "...part of us, that's all. Mother was his most loyal follower."

Vitani sighed. "It wasn't easy, having a mother who was obsessed with such a cruel lion." Kopa smiled, surprisingly.

"But you got through it, didn't you?"

"Yes, we did." Vitani replied. She thought to herself, 'Well, me and Kovu did'...

"Just like you... got through losing your friend Asante?" Vitani said, having the courage to bring up the subject. "Yes, I did." Kopa answered. His smile was now confident, and he looked right at Vitani.

She stared in awe at the love in his eyes, her purple eyes twinkling. The two lions just stared at each other for a while. Soon, a smile had come to be on Vitani's face. Kopa was smiling, too.

Kopa and Vitani stargaze

"Thanks for talking with me tonight," Vitani said quietly. "Thanks for talking with me, too." Kopa replied. His blue eyes were also twinkling.

A star glowed in the background, causing the two lions to look up at it. "I suppose we should be heading back now," Kopa suggested. "Yes, we should." Vitani agreed.

Night Walk

They both got up and began walking home, side by side. Smiles get being exchanged between the two. Kopa put his tail over Vitani's, and Vitani just smiled back.

As they both went into Pride Rock, Kopa said to his female friend, "Goodnight, Vitani." She replied, " 'Night, Kopa."

With a happy sigh, Kopa went to sleep within moments, as did Vitani.

The next day, everyone was up and active right away. Kopa and Vitani were the last ones out of Pride Rock, having had slept in because of the night before.

Vitani started to walk towards her Lion Guard, when she noticed Kopa.

She walked up to him, and he was noticeably glad to see her.

With a smile, Vitani said, "Thanks for the time we had last night." Kopa (of course) smiled back, and replied, "You're welcome. I'm glad I came out there with you."

Vitani's Guard was listening in. "Vitani?" Shabaha finally said. "We've been waiting."

Vitani looked over at them, then her and Kopa exchanged a nervous laugh.

"See you later," she said to him, before joining her group. Vitani gave Kopa one last smile. Kopa smiled, too. "See you then."

Their relationship would not be the same.
