Unexpected Love - Chapter 7 (pt 1)

"I said I'd tell you about the rescue, didn't I?" Vitani replied to Kasi, with a smile.

"Rescue!?" Kasi exclaimed. "OK, you HAVE to tell me now. What happened???"

Luckily, the two lionesses arrived at the Lair of the Guard as soon as Kasi finished speaking.

"There you are, Vitani!" Tazama announced. "Where, exactly, were you for that long?" Shabaha asked, noticing that Vitani was a little wet.

"You'll never believe what happened at this one waterhole..." Vitani started, sitting down. She began telling her Lion Guard the whole story, about how her and Kopa fought a large crocodile. The four lionesses listened in utter awe and fascination. By the time Vitani was done, most of their jaws had dropped.

"That was incredible!" Kasi shouted. "I can't believe you made it out alive!" Tazama said in amazement. "No wonder no one goes to that waterhole," Shabaha stated. "Good thing you and Kopa work so well together."

"Yeah, good thing." Vitani muttered to herself.

"Let's head out and do a quick patrol," Vitani suggested, out of the blue.

"You don't even wanna talk about it anymore?" Tazama asked curiously. "We only heard the story once!" Kasi blurted.

"C'mon, girls. We can't dwell on this all day." Imara said to the group. "And besides, I think I heard a skirmish between two servals earlier?"

"Imara is right," Vitani said, with a smile at her friend. "Let's go." With that, the group headed out.

While the Guard was away, word about Kopa's daring act had spread amongst the lions in Simba's pride. As soon as Kopa came around, Tiifu and Zuri started following him admiringly.

"I bet you were so brave out there, Prince Kopa!" Zuri remarked. "That crocodile was probably scared silly!" Tiifu added.

With an awkward smile, Kopa replied, "Thanks for the compliments, girls," causing the two young lionesses to giggle. "Prince Kopa" was a nickname the strong lion had earned. He didn't like it very much, because it reminded him of what life he'd run away from.

Vitani was hanging out with Kovu and Kiara while Tiifu and Zuri flirted with Kopa. "I'm glad you're alright, Vitani," Kovu was saying to his older sister. "Good thing Kopa was there to save you," Kiara added, with a wink.

Vitani gave Kiara a funny look, who just giggled in response. Kovu raised an eyebrow, not knowing why Kiara would say something like that.

For the rest of the day, all anyone could talk about was the rescue. It was almost 9:00 at night (human time) when all the chatty lions in Simba's pride went to bed.

At midnight, Vitani woke up and felt strangely wide awake. She got up, out of Pride Rock, and went to a meadow. Here in this field, she could see the stars clearly. On this night, they were very bright and beautiful.

Vitani sighed to herself. Suddenly she heard a voice behind her: "Vitani?"

It was Kopa. She turned around to see him. "I'm surprised to see you here," Kopa said. "What are you doing up?" Vitani asked.
