This is the first part to the tenth chapter of Caldafox's Lion King/Guard fanfic "[[TLK - Kopa and Vitani: Unexpected Love|Unexpected Love]]".

It had been three days since Kopa and Asante had reunited, and in most all of those days, the same thing happened: Vitani and Kopa hung out, then they hung out with Asante, and then Kopa excused Vitani from him and Asante's convos.

At first, Vitani thought they just wanted some alone time. That she could understand, because they had been really good friends as cubs and then separated for years. So she dismissed the thought that Kopa was gossiping about her.. but if he wasn't, why did he always whisper when she walked by these days?

Vitani didn't care, after a while. She had better things to do than hang out with someone who seemed to be talking bad about her, anyway. She began focusing more on her Lion Guard duties, hanging out with old friends, and just minding her own business.

"Dang, those two cubs of Nadim's sure are annoying!" Kasi said one day, as the Lion Guard hung out in the Lair.

"I know," Tazama agreed. "Why can't they be more like their sister Makeda?" Imara inquired out loud.

"Who knows," Shabaha said, with a smile and eye roll. "What do you think, Vitani?"

"I just wish they would move out of the Pride Lands already." Vitani said. "But Nadim never listens to a word we say."

"I bet Kopa could be a good help with that," Imara suddenly said. "Maybe we just need some more muscle to scare him away."

"Good idea," Vitani said. "But I think our Lion Guard is all set with us."

Shabaha nodded, while the others just looked at Vitani.

"I noticed you haven't hung out with him in a while, 'Tani." Tazama observed. "Just a wonder, is there any certain reason?"

"No," Vitani lied. "Does it matter?" "Of course not," Imara said. "What you do is your own business."


Meanwhile, Asante and Kopa were finishing up their recent conversation. Over the past few days, Kopa had filled Asante in on everything him and Vitani had done together which had contributed to his feelings for her. He asked Asante for much advice on how to win the lioness's heart - unknowing that he already had.

"Thank you for all your helpful advice, Asante." Kopa smiled. "No problem, Kopa." Asante smiled back. "Now it's time for you to take action, and tell Vitani how you feel."

Asante got up and walked away. Kopa got up and followed after her. "Where are you going?"  He asked his friend.

"I fixed the wrong I helped cause, Kopa." Asante explained. "I apologized to your family, met your new friend, and helped you on the next step of your life. Now it's time for me to go back home."

"Goodbye, Asante," Kopa said, with a smile at his friend. She turned back to nuzzle him, and he nuzzled her.

With one more smile, Asante ran off.

Vitani was passing by as Asante ran past. "Where are you going, Asante?" Vitani found herself asking. 

"I'm going back to the Outlands," the hyena explained. "It was a pleasure to meet you, Vitani."

Vitani smiled, feeling more friendly towards this hyena now. "It was a pleasure meeting you, too." Vitani said back.

Asante smiled at her, too, then ran back to her home. Kopa watched her until she vanished from sight.

Nala, who had been watching the whole thing from Pride Rock, leaped toward her oldest son.

"You alright, Kopa?" Nala inquired. "Yes I am, Mom." Kopa said, turning towards his mother.

"I know what's on your mind," Nala said gently. "Asante knew where your heart lies, and so do I."

Kopa started, "But-- how will I know when the right time is?"

"You'll know," Nala smiled. "Your heart will know the perfect time."

With that, Nala walked away, and Kopa knew what he had to do.
