This is the first chapter to Caldafox's Lion King/Guard fanfic "Unexpected Love". The text is copied from elsewhere.
Plot[]
It was a sunny day in the Pride Lands. Everything was going normal.
"Nothing's happening around here today," said Kasi, a member of Vitani's Lion Guard. "We've patrolled every border at least twice. We should head back now," suggested Imara, another member, to Vitani.
Vitani nodded. "I agree. Let's go."
As the five lionesses were walking back towards Pride Rock, Tazama looked behind her and squinted. A look of shock was on her face. "What's wrong, Tazama?" Vitani asked, walking up to her keenest of sight.
"There's a... lion running toward us!" Tazama gasped. Vitani looked, and sure enough, a male lion was running towards the group. "Prepare to attack, everyone. This could be a rogue from Nadim's pride." Vitani ordered.
"Well, he's probably a rogue if he's all by himself," Shabaha muttered, with a smirk. Imara elbowed her, frowning.
The male lion soon stood before the 5 lionesses. He was quite built, with a brown mane, golden-orange colored body, blue eyes, and scar on his jaw. "Halt! Who goes there?" Vitani demanded, as soon as the male lion reached them. "Are you a foe, or ally?" Kasi ordered, her ears back.
"Please, I mean no harm," the male lion said, panting. "I've just run for several miles after a physical attack. Is Pride Rock nearby?"
"Why should we believe you?" Imara asked, somewhat snippy.
"My name is Kopa," the male lion said. "I'm a son of Simba and Nala. All I ask is that you take me to them." All the lionesses' jaws dropped when Kopa stated his identidy - except Vitani, who had hardly believed anything this lion said. "Hmmm," Vitani replied. "We'll take you to Simba and Nala, as long as you promise not to attack."
"I promise," Kopa said, with a smile, as his blue eyes sparkled.
About 15 minutes later, Vitani and her Guard arrived at Pride Rock. Simba and Nala were waiting there. "Hello, King Simba and Queen Nala," Vitani said respectfully. "Everything was normal around here, but we've got a lion who claims he's your---"
"Kopa!" Simba and Nala exclaimed at once. They ran up to him and started nuzzling him.
"Whoa, whoa, hold on!" Kasi blurted. "This guy was actually telling the truth??"
"We missed you so much," Nala said, as she nuzzled her son. "I missed you both, too." Kopa said, with a warm expression.
Vitani and her Guard just stood there while the parents-and-son-trio gave affection. "So... does anyone want to give an explanation about this?" asked Tazama.
Kiara came out of Pride Rock at that moment, Kovu by her side. "Mom?! Dad?!" she exclaimed. "Who is this?" Kopa looked at Kiara and walked up to her, Kovu eyeing him. "I always wanted to meet you, little sister."
"L-little sister?" Kiara gasped. "I- I have an older brother??"
"Kopa, why don't you tell them the whole story?" Simba suggested. Kopa nodded, with a sigh.
"You see," he started, "I was born about a year before Kiara was. I lived a happy, innocent life as a cub, until one day I snuck into the Outlands. There I met Asante, a hyena, who quickly became my friend." He sighed sadly but continued on.
"But my parents didn't approve of our friendship..." Kopa continued. "So...in vain I ran off." Those who hadn't heard the story before gasped. "I lived a life on the run, and learned to survive on my own. But a few months later I came back to the Pride Lands, and reunited with Asante after all these years. However, we ran into some leopards..." Kopa sighed sadly again, his head down. "...and they...they got Asante."
Everyone's faces were now full of compassion. Even Simba and Nala looked a wee bit sad.
"After that happened, I knew I had to face my family and come back to them. I knew a lot of things had happened by then, and if I waited any longer to return, I would only make my parents madder." Kopa stood there with his head down, his story now over. He turned to his parents and said sadly, "I'm really sorry, mom and dad. I should have never been so foolish and listened to you in the first place."
Simba and Nala looked at each other, then at each other, with a small smile. "Kopa, we've already forgiven you." Simba said.
Kopa's face lit up. "Really?! Even after what I did?"
Nala smiled. "We could never stay mad at you forever," she said. "And besides, we've had a change of mind about the Outlanders. If Asante hadn't died, we would have welcomed her with open arms, too." Simba said. Kopa smiled with utter delight, as he proceeded to embrace his parents again.
"Now that that's all taken care of," Kiara said, "Can we have a re-introduction, please?"
Kopa smiled and came up to Kiara again. "You look so regal, Kiara." Kopa said. "I'm sure you'll be a great queen."
Kovu smiled warmly. "You must be Kiara's mate." Kopa said, with a kind smile. "My name's Kovu. Nice to meet you, Kopa." Kovu said, with a paw-shake between the two.
"Someone has to go to the Tree of Life and tell Kion about this!" Kiara exclaimed. "Kion?" Kopa asked. Kiara smiled. "He's my - er, our- younger brother."
"He lives there with his mate, Rani." Vitani said, walking up to Kopa finally.
Kopa smiled at her. "Thank you. What was your name again?"
"This is Vitani," Kiara said, "Kovu's older sister. She leads a Lion Guard, with four other members. Kion used to lead one, too."
Kopa said, "That sounds really interesting. We have a lot of catching up to do, little sis." Kiara smiled. "I never thought I'd hear anyone say that to me." she said shyly. Her and Kopa exchanged a nuzzle.
Nala sent one of the former outsider lionesses, Dotty, to the Tree of Life, where Kion lived, and Kiara proceeded to show Kopa around Pride Rock (even though he used to live there, he hadn't seen the place in several years).
Vitani and her Guard, who were fascinated by Kopa, also began showing the male lion around. 'Tani, however, didn't know what to think about this new lion. What would become of the two, now that they'd finally met?
