Production[]
The story was planned sometime in mid-2014 when The Lion Guard was announced. The story was set for a 2016 release as the story got postponed due to unknown reasons and The Lion Guard running at that time.
Mody and Dacey were planned to appear in the story with Timon and Pumbaa as the two meerkat characters were cut in the final version due to having no place for them to be with Timon and Pumbaa since the story took place during the Lion Guard TV series around that time.
Shenzi, Banzai and Ed were going to make a return in the story, but their roles were scrapped in the final version of the story. They were suppose to team up with Janja's clan to seek revenge on Simba and Kion. Most of the concept would later be used in the Crossover Omniverse Saga story Lion King and Happy Feet: A Pride Tale.
