Til the Pride Lands' end, Lion Guard defend!
―The Lion Guard's catchphrase

The Lion Guard is a group of animals who work together to preserve the kingdom and defend the Circle of Life.

History[]

Information[]

The Lion Guard is a group tasked with the job of defending their home from danger, traditionally led by the second-born cub of the monarch. The leader is bestowed the Roar of the Elders, which helps the group in battle, while every member is given a roaring lion mark on their shoulder. This marking may be different colors, and the color seemingly depends on the fur, skin, or feather color of the animal with the mark. Traditionally, the Lion Guard consists of the fiercest, bravest, fastest, strongest, and keenest of sight. However, Kion, current leader of the Pride Lands Lion Guard, created a new role on the Guard: the smartest.

Formation[]

The Lion Guard is a tradition within the Pride Lands and Back Lands, especially for the second born child of the reigning monarchy. The very first leader was Askari, who created the Lion Guard himself as a way to combat a great evil. Scar led the Lion Guard before Kion, but he was irresponsible with his duties and abused his powers, using the Roar of the Elders to destroy the other members of the Guard. However, very little has been revealed of past Lion Guards. Kion's Lion Guard is the only Guard in history to have just one lion.

Legends of the Lion Guard: The Dark Prophecy[]

The Lion Guard gathers at the base of Pride Rock, preparing for the trip to the Tree of Life. After a few members bid farewell to their friends and family, they head out of the Pride Lands, entering the Back Lands. Unbeknownst to them, Makucha's Leap overhears Makini talking about the Tree of Life, and they decide to follow them there to feast on the rare animals. Upon entering Mirihi Forest, Kion tells everyone to take a break, and he heads off to glance at his reflection. Meanwhile, Nyeusi reveals to Reth's Pride that the Lion Guard is going to the Tree of Life, which delights Reth, as it is the perfect opportunity to enact revenge for their defeat the battle. He explains that they'll track them by scent, and begins to lead the pride to the border. Eventually, the Lion Guard and their allies reach the Mountain Pass, where they are greeted by Ullu and Rani, and the latter leads them through the pass. They arrive at the Tree, bowing before Janna, who has Nirmala examine Kion and Ono. Once that is done, Rani takes the Lion Guard on a tour of the Tree of Life. At the same time, Makucha's Leap meets with Ora's Bank and Reth's Pride, and Makucha and Reth both reveal their plans to follow the Lion Guard. While Ora agrees with an alliance, Reth does not, wishing for his pride to remain independent. Back at the Tree of Life, Rani is showing the Lion Guard around Ciso River, and Ullu brings Kingiza to them.

The next day, Reth expresses his intent to launch an attack when the Lion Guard least expects it, and while Kariuki is skeptical they can be defeated, Reth is certain. Meanwhile, the Lion Guard gathers inside the Tree of Life for Ono's healing. Once he is healed, he and Anga fly out to explore the area while the rest of the Guard, sans Kion, joins the Night Pride on a patrol of Rocky Mountains. When Reth's Pride attacks, the Guard splits up, with Fuli helping Rani and Mhina at Marsh Forest and the rest fighting at the Tundra. Following the defeat of Reth's Pride, the Guard regroups at Marsh Forest. Later, the Lion Guard and Night Pride relax outside the Tree of Life, unaware of the arrival of Makucha's Leap and Ora's Bank; Makucha is certain the Guard will have no chance of beating them this time. Shortly after, the Lion Guard and Night Pride head off on a patrol of Desert Plains. Upon Ullu's report of a army of predators attacking Cek's Flock at Winter Woods, they rush off to fight them. Eventually, they are defeated, and Mama Binturong calls a retreat. Following this, Rani becomes irate, learning that the Lion Guard also led Makucha and his friends to the Tree of Life. Meanwhile, in Leopon Plains, Tatu comments that it was good of Jasiri to protect the Pride Lands with the Lion Guard's absence.

Back in the Pride Lands, Nala admits that she misses the Lion Guard, and Simba agrees with her. Later, Fuli leads the Lion Guard on a patrol of Marsh Forest with the Night Pride and Kingiza. Soon after, the Lion Guard, Night Pride, and Kingiza patrol Bamboo Woods. Whilst speaking with Kion at the Willows, Mufasa says he cannot help Kion with the Roar, as he never had it nor led the Lion Guard. Upon meeting Askari at Cikha Escarpment, Kion recognizes him as the first leader of the Lion Guard, and he in turn recognizes him as the Lion Guard's current leader. That same day, Reth's Pride attacks Saumu's Pounce, with Reth believing that the Lion Guard won't arrive in time to stop the damage caused. Meanwhile, the Lion Guard is patrolling Ciso River with the Night Pride and Kingiza when Ullu and Cara fly up to them, frantically reporting that Saumu and his cats are under attack by Reth's Pride. Rani, mortified, leads the patrol to Marsh Forest. After a brutal and violent fight, Reth retreats with his pride, but not before warning that their next attack will be much more morbid. Shortly thereafter, the Lion Guard and Night Pride are patrolling Marsh Forest, but the calm atmosphere is interrupted when Ullu and Cara report that the army of predators has split up and are attacking in Bamboo Woods and Winter Woods. While the majority of the Night Pride rushes to Winter Woods, Fuli rushes to Bamboo Woods with the Lion Guard and a few members of the Night Pride. There, they fight Makucha's Leap, but everyone except for Bunga is subdued.

However, Bunga is captured by Makucha and Smun's Prickle, unable to escape. However, this is quickly revealed to be false, as Bunga reveals himself to have never been restrained, using his stink to drive the army off. During their day out at Icy River, Mhina tells Kion that he's a great leader of the Lion Guard and that Scar will never compare to him. The two pin each other down in the snow, with Kion quickly pinning Mhina after he pins him beforehand, citing his time as leader of the Guard giving him quick reflexes. He notes that he's proud to be with him, as he makes him feel more than just being the leader of the Lion Guard. That night, the Lion Guard patrols Rocky Mountains with the Night Pride. One day later, the Lion Guard patrols the Tundra with the Night Pride. In Bamboo Woods, Mhina breaks down after seeing Ubaya, knowing he won't be able to tell a member of the Guard. By this time, the Lion Guard and Night Pride are patrolling Desert Plains; Bunga soon leaves to get answers on Kion's absence. When the predators begin their attack, Jivin orders Ullu to find the Lion Guard, whom she quickly warns, and they engage in the battle. Despite their efforts, they are overwhelmed by the predators. Cara, having also learned of the chaos, warns Kion, Bunga, and Rani, and Rani exclaims that they must find the Lion Guard immediately. Heading to the battlefield, Kion calls for a regroup, and the Guard swiftly joins his side. He explains that they'll try fighting melee first, but if that doesn't work, he has a plan. Before they break apart, he makes Mhina a member of the Guard, cementing his place by his side.

The Lion Guard then splits up to combat the predators, but still face challenges and are hindered. Eventually, Kion uses his mastery of the Roar of the Elders to defeat the predators, sending them away from the Tree of Life, leaving his friends in awe. Weeks later, the Lion Guard, Makini, and Nguruma emergesfrom the Tree of Life, fully healed and ready to go home. Jivin honors the Guard by placing a temporary mark of the Night Pride on their right shoulders, and he, Maya, and Rani personally thank them for saving the Tree of Life. With all goodbyes soon said, the Lion Guard and their friends set off in the direction of home, quickly leaving the Tree of Life and entering the Back Lands. After resting under a tree, they proceed through Mirihi Forest, helping wagtails fix their nest and encountering Orji climbing up a tree. Upon arriving at the Iroko Tree, Anga and Ono notice Pride Rock, and the Lion Guard swiftly rushes into the Pride Lands, greeting Jasiri. Kion and Nguruma rush ahead to join their parents at the peak, though the Guard and Makini join them afterward. Later, the Lion Guard members head to their respective homes. When Kion awakens in a dream with Askari, he meets his Lion Guard and is astonished by their appearance.
