Premise[]

This is the prequel to The Lion Guard: The Legend Begins Anew. It adapts Return of the Roar, but from the POV of Fuli, who is simply Kion's girlfriend when she is selected as the fastest. it is her looking back on all of this.

Story[]

To all legends, there is a beginning.

So it was with the legend of Tetrarch Kion and his leadership of the group known as the Lion Guard. For generations, the second-born cub of the Lion king or queen led the defensive group called the Lion Guard. Traditionally composed of lions and lionesses, each of them possessing an ability that aided them in defeating the enemy and keeping the peace. The fiercest was the leader and possessed the Roar of the Elders. Next was the fastest, who had the gift of speed. Then there was the bravest, who feared little. After that was the strongest, who was stronger than the rest, followed by the Keenest of Sight, who saw what others could not, and finally, the Purest of Heart, who was said to be immune to evil temptations.

The last leader of the Guard before Kion was none other than Scar.

This was when he was still called Taka. However, Scar used his roar to kill the rest of his Guard. It was then that the Great Kings and Queens of the Past stripped his power from him. From then on, there was no Lion Guard. The name lay dormant, slipping into legend. Mufasa's reign and death at the paws of Scar and his mate Zira came and went. It looked like there would be no one to save the Pridelands during the reign of Scar.

Then Simba returned.

A fight erupted, and Scar eventually betrayed his hyena minions by saying that they were responsible for Mufasa's death and the takeover. Simba defeated Scar and the hyenas came in shortly after and tore him to pieces. Zira refused to accept Simba as the king, blaming her nephew for the death of Scar. She was banished, and the reign of Simba truly began.

Now began the healing process for the Pridelands.

The rains returned. Plants regrew. Kiara was born. Then, later, came my handsome hero, Kion, the Pride of the Pridelands. We met as babies and were the best of friends from then on. Then, at some point, our relationship became a romantic one. Ah, young love, so pure and innocent. Then times changed yet again. We we were given a great calling. I joined the Lion Guard. Together, we fought for the first time against Janja, our arch-nemesis, and sent him running.

My name is Fuli, and I was a follower of Kion. After everything that happened, how could I not be?
