Lion Guard...there could never be enough words in the whole world to describe how much I - and the Night Pride - are indebted. You risked all of your lives to stop Reth's Pride and Mama's army of predators. All the blood shed, the claws slashing through fur, and the growls and snarls of battle... were worth it. Every last second of it. The subjects we rule over are safe, thanks to you...and Kion. I was wrong to doubt you for one second, or claim you were behind the predator attacks, but...no. You are a great leader. You have wit I don't have. You have bravery I don't have. Confidence. An ability so sacred. You're exactly the lion I wish to be when I'm queen. If it weren't for you, we'd all be dead. You, the Lion Guard and Mhina...saved us all. For that, we thank you. From the bottom of our hearts and mine….asante.
―Rani thanking the Lion Guard

Rani is a young female Asiatic lion who lives at the Tree of Life. She is the daughter of Jivin and Maya, the older sister of Baliyo, the mate of Kingiza, and the future queen of the Night Pride.

Appearance[]

Rani's main pelt is brown tinged with red, while her eye shades, muzzle, paws, and underbelly are cream. She has brown ear rims, the tops of which are lighter in color and the sides of which are darker in color. A long dark brown stripe runs up her back, ending at the base of her head, and she has several spots of a lighter shade on the backs of her legs. Her eyes are chocolate-brown. Additionally, as a member of the Night Pride, she has a lion's head marking on her right shoulder. A long pink scar mars the fur on her inner right foreleg.

Personality[]

She's smart, brave, but also kind. A great leader. You'd like her.
―Kingiza on Rani

Rani is strong-willed and dutiful. She questions her ability to lead and tries her best to follow the example of her parents. On occasion, she can be temperamental, though she appreciates others' willingness to help her. She can also be cantankerous and hot-headed at times.

History[]

Backstory[]

Rani was born into the royal family of the Tree of Life as the daughter of Jivin and Maya, and the granddaughter of Janna and Dayaalu. During Rani's cubhood, she became known for her responsible and dutiful nature, and respect for all that followed the Circle of Life. Shortly after the birth of Rani's younger brother, Baliyo, a peace treaty was agreed upon between Leopon Plains and the Tree of Life. Rani met and befriended Mhina, the prince of Leopon Plains. When Rani reached adolescence, Jivin and Maya began to prepare her for her future role as queen, and Rani soon learned about the history and customs of the Tree of Life, in addition to the different lifestyles of each inhabitant. Along with Mhina, Rani took on the role of protecting all that reside within the Tree of Life and Leopon Plains.

Legends of the Lion Guard: Protectors of the Pride Lands[]

The Pride Lands Games[]

Rani and the rest of the Tree of Life delegation arrive in the Pride Lands the day before the Pride Lands Games. Upon returning to Pride Rock, Kion and Rani talk about the games, where she reveals that she is the leader of the Tree of Life team. The next day, Rani competes, and goes last like every other team leader. Her team ends up winning second place in the swimming relay, and she is awarded with a baobab fruit by Kiara. In the stone throw, Rani earns two points, allowing her team to tie with team Leopon Plains in third place. She and Mhina are gifted a horned melon by Kohana. In the stick toss, Rani easily earns five points. She later sleeps in the Lair of the Lion Guard.

Kion and Nguruma's Birthday[]

Rani attends Kion and Nguruma's birthday celebration. When enemies attack, she and Baliyo wish to help, and Kion assigns her to deal with Kiburi's Float. She later sleeps in the Lair.

A Fragile Hope[]

Rani stands next to her sick father, worried. The Lion Guard, Mhina, his siblings, and Nguruma gather around her and Baliyo, and Mhina reassures her that Jivin will be fine, to which she responds that Janna is only concerned because greencough killed her mate. She is given goatweed to help with her grief, and she cries into her mother's pelt. Maya comforts her and Baliyo, saying that Jivin will be fine, and nuzzles Rani on her head. Suddenly, Kenene announces that Jivin will make a full recovery, and Rani and Baliyo collapse beside their weak father. Nirmala warns them to be careful, but Rani says that he'll be okay as she nuzzles his cheek, with Maya joining her. She glances up, and states that Ullu can tell everyone's families that they're spending the night over. The next day, outside the Tree of Life, Rani wishes everyone safe travels.

A Wonderful Royal Summit[]

Rani, her parents, and Kingiza arrive in the Pride Lands for the Royal Summit. Kion greets Rani and Kingiza, who are standing close together, and he asks how things are at the Tree of Life. Rani mentions that all has been peaceful and that the animals are content, to which he affirms that it's a relief after the battles with Mama Binturong and Reth. She agrees, telling him that Janna and Surak want their greetings to be forwarded to Nguruma, and Kion promises to do so, recalling that he likes to tell their stories. Rani and Kingiza then roll their eyes at Kion and Mhina and share a passionate kiss. When prince Okala envelops himself in a conversation with Mhina, Rani and Kingiza approach the impala, and Rani introduces herself as the heir of the Tree of Life. Introducing himself in turn as the heir to the Dusty Plain, Okala requests to hear more about the Tree, and she explains that it's a beautiful and mystic place with many habitats and animals that live in harmony. Mhina, nudging Kingiza, asks him how married life is, and he admits that being married to Rani is the best thing ever, feeling amazing and complete when with her.

The Likizo ya Mvua Celebration[]

A Mother's Day Party![]

Legends of the Lion Guard: Battle for the Pride Lands[]

Rani is now a teenager. Anga reports that she and a party from the Tree of Life are at the watering hole, and the Lion Guard, along with their allies, go to retrieve them. They are escorted to Pride Rock, and Jivin explains that Rani and Baliyo came to help the Guard as they patrol. Kion, appreciating the extra help, allows them to join, and Jivin tells his children to assist their allies. Rani promises him that they won't let him down, and he replies that he's sure they won't. Rani and Baliyo join the Lion Guard and their allies on a patrol in Mizimu Grove, and while everything is peaceful, Ono suddenly blurts out that Sarabi is being attacked by Kiburi's Float at Urembo River, and they rush off to save her. Upon arriving, Kion orders Rani, Jasiri, Baliyo, and Anga to handle Nduli and Tamka, and they charge forward. Jasiri and Rani easily send Nduli toppling toward the riverbank, and Sarabi growls at him. Kion orders everyone to regroup, and once they do, he uses the Roar of the Elders to send the crocodiles flying away. After the majority of the Guard and their allies leave, Rani pointedly says that they should be heading back, as Jivin is probably ready to leave. Agreeing, Kion leads her, Mhina, and Baliyo back to Pride Rock, and Jivin asks his party if they are ready to go. They all agree, and as they depart, Rani gives a brief goodbye to Kion.

Later, Fuli asks who will join the patrol, and Kion believes Rani, Baliyo, Mhina, and his siblings will. After the kingdom delegations are taken to Pride Rock, Rani and Baliyo step forward, with Rani requesting that they join the patrol. Kion agrees, leading the Guard and their allies on a patrol of Urembo Meadows. Rani asks if there will be a battle with the Outlanders, and Kion says there will be, as they never give up attacking. Suddenly, Anga reports that Kuuma and Mahuluti are being attacked by Kiburi and his float at Lake Shangaza, and the patrol rushes over there to save them. Kion assigns all of them except for Mhina to fight the float, and during the battle, Rani knocks Kondo towards the lakeshore. Kion calls everyone behind him, and he uses the Roar on Kiburi's Float, sending them away. The rest of the Guard and their allies, sans Kion and Mhina, then head in the direction of Pride Rock. Some time afterward, the Tree of Life residents, including Rani, are outside the tree when Jivin reveals that Scar has returned. She turns to Baliyo, asking him to train a team in Marsh Forest while she trains another team in Desert Plains.

When Scar commences his war on the Pride Lands, Rani is one of the many animals gathered at the base of Pride Rock. After Zazu reports to Simba that the Lion Guard is outnumbered and outmatched, he rallies the delegations, and assigns Jivin, Rani, and Baliyo to help Fuli and Beshte at Mizimu Grove. Upon arriving, Rani finds Fuli pinned against a tree by Kiburi. Unsheathing her claws, she slams Kiburi into the ground and pins him, remarking that Fuli isn't so outnumbered now. He retorts that she can't win easily this time, but she says that they aren't surrendering. Reirei comments that she shouldn't be too sure, and Bila collides with Rani, sending her crashing into the ground. She tries to get up, but Dogo bowls her back over, and Fuli knocks him away from Rani. Shortly after, Kion's family is attacked by Kucha's Clan at Pride Rock, and Rani, Baliyo, and Jasiri surround Kambu on three sides, confusing him. After the hyenas are defeated, Scar appears to the crowd, and Rani watches as he addresses them. Once he vanishes, she questions if that was really Scar. Minutes later, Rani is still left in shock, and she questions if it won't be easy to defeat Scar.

Later, Rani approaches Flat Ridge Rock, limping in pain, and she notices Mhina's injuries. She asks what happened, and dismissing the severity of his wounds, Mhina says that he was attacked by Kariuki. Rani moves toward Rafiki, revealing a scar on her foreleg, inquiring if she can be treated, and Rafiki tells her to sit by Mhina. Seeing how tired he is, she once again questions if he's alright, and Mhina repeats that he's alright. Tatu asks who attacked her, and Rani describes a lion with dark orange fur, a red mane, and a scar across his right eye. Tatu realizes that she is referring to Ubaya, an evil lion who tried to take over Leopon Plains during the reign of Arjana. Mhina comments that he didn't know Ubaya was here, and Rani reassures him that she was only scarred. Mhina then recalls how he told Kion he would fight together with him, but can't now, and Rani promises him that they'll reunite once Scar is defeated. Sighing, he is about to reveal his crush on Kion, but Tatu interjects that they already know, with Rani adding that anyone would have to be as clueless as Bunga to not see it. Later, Rani participates in the final battle for the Pride Lands. Following Scar's defeat, Jasiri reassures Kion that she and Rani will make sure everyone gets home safely.

Legends of the Lion Guard: The Dark Prophecy[]

Rani and Ullu greet the Lion Guard and their allies at the entrance to the Mountain Pass, and Rani reveals that Zazu warned them of their arrival. Seeing Kion paw his eye, she questions if he's okay, and he affirms that he's fine. Rani then instructs everyone to follow her, as Janna is waiting for them, and she leads them through the pass. Upon arriving at the Tree, she invites them inside, noting that her parents and Janna are expecting them. Rani informs her grandmother that the Lion Guard has been brought on her request, and Janna thanks her. After Janna gives Kion and Ono a diagnosis on their conditions, Rani offers to show them around the Tree of Life, which she agrees to, and she leads them out. They soon arrive at Ciso River, and Rani explains that many seasons before she was born, Berenike and Bahan discovered the Tree of Life and its mystical healing powers. Now, the responsibility of protecting the Tree, along with preserving its healing powers, goes to the Night Pride. Bunga asks Rani about the Tree's bugs, and she responds that she wouldn't know, but they do have a wide variety here. Suddenly, Ullu approaches them, Kingiza in tow. He reveals that he wanted to come defend the Tree of Life, and Rani's eyes shine with warmth and affection as she expresses how grateful she is for his help. Kingiza then brushes his muzzle against hers, stating that he wants to spend some time with her, which delights Rani.

The next day, the Lion Guard and Night Pride are gathered inside the Tree of Life for Ono to be healed. Once Ono is healed, Janna suggests that the Lion Guard joins the Night Pride on patrol, and Rani allows them to come along. Surak offers to join as well, much to his niece's pleasure. When Mhina gets enveloped in a conversation with Kion, Rani pointedly reminds him that he has a patrol to do, impatiently calling for him. At once, he breaks away from Kion, and the patrol heads out. They reach Rocky Mountains, and Beshte asks Rani if there are any interesting animals at the Tree of Life, to which she replies that they have many animals that are rare or not located in the Pride Lands at all. She adds that someday, she will become responsible for ruling the Tree and leading the Night Pride, and Mhina murmurs that it's a great deal. A short time after, Ullu flies up to Nirmala at Dirisha, informing her that Rani needs her, as Reth's Pride is attacking. Meanwhile, at Marsh Forest, Rani, along with Fuli and Mhina, faces off with Reth, Alasiri, Ekene, and Slash. Seeing Astuto's pups, Ekene makes a beeline toward them, but Rani blocks his path, sending him crashing into the ground. However, Ekene easily recovers, pinning her down and pressing a paw against her throat. He starts to asphyxiate Rani, who struggles to kick him off, and she begins to pass out.

Suddenly, Nirmala rushes to the scene and drives Ekene back, warning him to stay away from her niece. Back at Dirisha, Kion finally completes his task, but notices Rani is down from afar. He picks up his flower, running to the battle scene; in the meantime, Nirmala and Fuli have helped Rani settle under a tree. Following the defeat of Reth's Pride, Rani is supported by Nirmala as she walks up to Kion and Mhina. She asks if everyone is alright, which they confirm, and Kion asks if she's fine. Rani says that she is, but just needs rest, and Nirmala promises to get her some herbs once they return to the Tree. Anxiously, Rani turns to Astuto's Leash, questioning if they're okay, and Astuto nods. Upon arriving, Surak asks his niece if she is doing well, and Rani affirms that she'll be fine. She soon glances at Kion, demanding how Reth's Pride got here, and he realizes that they must have been followed to the Tree of Life, much to Rani's ire. Frustrated, she snaps that the pride will kill everyone at the Tree of Life if given the chance, and Kion apologizes, admitting that they didn't know they were being followed. Later, after Ullu reports that all is peaceful, Rani refuses to rule out the chance of Reth's Pride launching another attack. Maya reassures her that everything will be fine, and Kion adds that the Lion Guard has an obligation to protect the Tree of Life, but she firmly points out that Reth's Pride must be driven out, as they are compromising everyone's safety. Kion promises her that they will keep the Tree's residents safe.

Shortly after, Rani asks the Lion Guard and Night Pride if they're ready for the patrol in Desert Plains, which Kingiza confirms, and she leads the way there. While patrolling the area, Mhina hopes Kion's healing is going well, and Rani assures him that Nirmala knows what she's doing. Amazed by his surroundings, Beshte asks what kind of animals live at Desert Plains, and Rani mentions that Registaan and his herd reside here. Bunga questions if there are any bugs, but she responds that camels do not eat them. Wrapping a wing around Ono, Anga comments that the Tree is a wonderful place, and Rani agrees. Suddenly, Ullu flies up to them, exclaiming that an army of predators is attacking Cek's Flock, and horrified, she mutters that another threat like Reth's Pride is the last thing they need right now. Ullu describes the predators in more detail, and Rani recognizes Makucha's Leap, having fought them at Kion and Nguruma's birthday celebration ages ago. Quickly, she says that she'll fetch Kion and Nirmala, running off to do so. At Marsh Forest, Rani arrives, and Nirmala asks what's wrong, seeing her so terrified. She urgently states that an army of predators is targeting Cek and his flock, adding that they must leave for Winter Woods right this minute. The three dash to the battlefield, shocked upon seeing what is going on, and Rani wonders how they'll fight that many predators alone.

Kion assures her that they'll defeat them, but she snaps that her family and their friends are in danger. All of a sudden, Ora downs Baliyo with his venom, and in a fit of rage, Rani sends Ora crashing into members of his bank, spitting that he bit her brother. After the predators are defeated, Rani asks Baliyo if he's okay, to which he replies that he will be. She then breaks up the moment between Kion and Mhina, pointedly demanding why more predators have invaded the Tree of Life, and Kion regretfully admits that Makucha and his friends must have followed them. Infuriated, Rani pins him on the ground, screaming that those predators won't stop until the Tree of Life is destroyed, and while Kion tries to say that no one will be injured, she adds that they already harmed Fuli and Baliyo. Mhina and Kingiza then pull Rani off of Kion, and before she can leap onto him again, Surak blocks her path. Mhina points out that they didn't ask to be followed by Makucha, and Rani retorts that if the army is not stopped, everyone at the Tree of Life will die. Surak reminds her that they chose to follow the Lion Guard here, and Rani questions how else she's supposed to react to this news, to which Nirmala replies that being angry will not help the situation. Kion promises that the Lion Guard will keep the Tree safe, and Rani mutters that he better keep that promise true, causing Kingiza to stand beside her.

Later, Rani shares an amused glance with Fuli as Kion and Mhina affectionately glance at each other. She then announces that today's patrol will be in Marsh Forest, and she, along with Fuli, leads the Lion Guard, Night Pride, and Kingiza there. At the Willows, Kion still holds himself accountable for leading the predators to the Tree of Life, but Mhina reassures him that Jivin, Maya, and Rani know he wouldn't do that deliberately. Despite his words, Kion reminds him of Rani's fury after the last attack, but Mhina believes she was only worried for the Tree's residents. During the patrol, she asks Ono and Anga if all is clear, which they affirm. Kingiza walks up next to Rani's side, assuring her that they'll be prepared for the next time the predators attack, and she admits that she can't let her father down. He comments that she'll be a great leader and fighter someday, and affectionately pressing her shoulder with his, Rani expresses how happy she is that Kingiza is here with them. He agrees, the two enjoying their time together. Following that day, Rani leads the Lion Guard, Night Pride, and Kingiza on a patrol of Bamboo Woods. On the topic of Kion, she believes that he is as better as he can get, and Ono compares this to his eyesight, which Rani agrees with. Kingiza moves up next to Rani, and the two press closer together. She tells him that he's always welcome on patrols, mentioning that they make a great team, and Kingiza entwines his tail with Rani's.

After Ullu reports that all is clear, Rani points out that while the last few days have been peaceful, Reth and Makucha will attack and put the Tree of Life in danger again, and she doesn't want to fail at protecting its inhabitants. Jivin is certain she won't fail, and Rani responds that she doesn't want to let him down, to which he affirms that she never has. Later, on a patrol of Ciso River, Bunga senses that something isn't right about the day, and while Rani prepares to respond to him, Ono interjects and agrees that he is right. The patrol falls into a tense quiet for a moment until it is broken by Beshte, who ponders about Kion's whereabouts. Suddenly, Ullu and Cara fly up to the patrol, their eyes frantic and feathers ruffled, and startled, Rani asks them about what's going on. Ullu reports that Saumu's Pounce is being violently attacked by Reth's Pride in Marsh Forest, leaving cats bloodied and injured, and Cara adds that if no action is taken, Reth will win and lives will be lost. Mortified, Rani struggles to remain on her paws, but she manages to order Anga and Baliyo to find Kion, as lives are counting on them. After they rush off, she leads the Lion Guard, Night Pride, and Kingiza to Marsh Forest. During the battle, she, Fuli, and Auri fight Alasiri in an effort to protect Kea and Zera.

Eventually, Reth is outmatched in combat and retreats with his pride, but not before warning that their next attack will be much more dangerous. Shortly afterward, while on patrol in Marsh Forest, Rani remarks that it takes no genius to see that Kion and Mhina are in love based on the way they share physical contact and have interacted with each other - and even Mhina pressing his muzzle against Kion's wasn't enough. Baliyo states that they've patrolled with the two and his sister and Kingiza are in love as well, causing the patrol to erupt with chuckling, and embarrassed, Rani demands what he is talking about. He points out that ever since Kingiza arrived, she can't take her eyes off him for a second and it's very clear they're in love. Mansa adds that it even seems like Rani wants Kingiza to join the Night Pride, to which she growls that they're the worst for teasing her, though they don't listen to her and grow closer to each other. When Ullu and Cara report that the army of predators has split up and are attacking animals at two different locations, petrifying Rani, who asks who is being attacked. Ullu explains that Makucha's Leap is going after the elephants and golden wolves in Bamboo Woods while the komodo dragons are attacking the Amur leopards in Winter Woods.

Frantic, Rani exclaims that the rare species at the Tree will die out if they don't do anything immediately, and Fuli offers to take the Lion Guard to Bamboo Woods along with a few members of the Night Pride who are swift to volunteer. The rest of the Night Pride recites their catchphrase and rushes to Winter Woods. As they travel to see the Blazing Star, Nguruma asks Janna if it was difficult to abdicate the throne following the death of Rani's grandfather, and she responds that it was, but she knew she was putting the Tree in good paws. When Makini feels down over upsetting Nguruma, Janna notes that Rani frequently comes to her for advice - she has a big role to play in being the future queen. That night, Rani leads the Lion Guard and the Night Pride on a patrol of Rocky Mountains. Mhina remarks that it's been very quiet lately, and in response, Rani mutters that just because Reth and Makucha haven't done anything doesn't mean that they won't stop until everything at the Tree of Life is destroyed. They can't let their guard down, and with the attacks becoming more violent, they don't know what they'll do next. Thamani reassures her that she has an entire legion backing her and that they won't stop fighting to protect the Tree of Life. Despite her words, Mansa and Haraka are unnerved, with Haraka even suggesting that they're being watched. Rani is incredulous, and hissing at the patrol to be quiet, she snaps that if they all keep talking about being watched, they won't get a wink of sleep.

She adds that they are the Lion Guard and Night Pride and that nothing should be stopping them from protecting the Tree and monarchy, and Fuli agrees, urging the patrol to put their energy towards the future battles they'll face. The next day, on a patrol in the Tundra, the Lion Guard and Night Pride are uneasy at the thought of last night, and Rani firmly says that if the predators bypassed Ullu and Cara, they would have known about it, believing there is no way they can get past again, although she herself is skeptical. She agrees with Bunga and Beshte that something was off, not able to get what Nyota said out of her mind, but Fuli tells them not to be ridiculous. Meanwhile, in Bamboo Woods, Mhina realizes that his murderous grandfather is Ubaya, the same lion that scarred Rani in the battle for the Pride Lands, causing him to break down. After Ubaya departs, he runs away and knows he can't tell Rani about what happened, fearing she will hate him for being related to the same lion that tried to kill her. When he gets advice from Arjana, he feels more reassured and believes he'll be able to tell Rani and keep her as a friend. At the same time, the Lion Guard and Night Pride are patrolling Desert Plains; Anga spots a camel in trouble, and naming Registaan, Rani exclaims that they need to go. When they arrive, Bunga frees Registaan, and thanking him, he heads off. Bunga then probes the patrol on Kion, getting into an argument with Fuli, and deciding to find answers for himself, he runs off. Rani encourages Fuli to keep leading the patrol, dashing after him and catching up with Bunga outside the Tree of Life.

She warns him to not make a scene, but he yells that it's daytime, meaning no one should be sleeping, to which Rani huffs that they're called the Night Pride for a reason. Bunga yowls for Janna, requesting to speak with her, and groaning in embarrassment, Rani tells him that the elder lioness doesn't need him making a racket. Noticing how empty the Tree is, he asks why, and Janna, revealing herself to be awake, mentions that the others went out to search for herbs. She inquires as to what's going on, and Bunga replies that they're looking for Kion, who has gone missing, while Rani mutters that she is supposed to bring him back to the patrol - but now has to apparently help him search for Kion. Janna finds his absence strange, but admits that she hasn't talked with him much since his arrival and can't help. Makini, bursting out from the brambles, questions if Kion is really missing, and Bunga states that they haven't seen any traces of him for days, something he deems suspicious. She prompts them on whether or not they've searched everywhere, to which Rani recalls his absence on nearly all patrols in the past few days and him never sleeping with them. Makini suggests that Kion could be at Cikha Escarpment, and gasping, Rani remembers it as the place where Askari first discovered the Roar of the Elders. Incredulous, Bunga asks Makini if she is hinting that Kion is practicing the Roar, his eyes wide, and nodding, she explains that due to the escarpment's historical significance, it is highly likely that he is learning how to master the sacred ability.

She animates a cave painting of Askari using the Roar, which Rani and Bunga stare at in awe, and Rani reminisces on the stories Janna told her about Askari when she was a cub. Agreeing with Makini, Janna instructs her granddaughter to take Bunga to Cikha Escarpment, and excited, the honey badger dashes out first. Rani hesitates, wondering if this is a good idea, and her grandmother urges her to go. She and Bunga eventually reach Cikha Escarpment; the sight of the spires astonishes Bunga, and he says that Askari learned of the Roar of the Elders here. Rani replies that he did, causing him to wonder if he could obtain the ability and summon honey badgers in the sky. Frustrated, she responds that she doesn't know, and he asks her about the irritated "Fuli face" she is making. Suddenly, they are interrupted by a loud noise, startling Rani, but Bunga recognizes it as the Roar of the Elders - not only meaning that Kion is at the escarpment - but that the Roar has returned. In awe, Rani exclaims that it's coming from the top of the cliff, rushing off, and Bunga stumbles after her, shouting at her to wait. Once they reach the top of the escarpment, they find Kion swirling a set of rocks in the air with the Roar, then smashing them together to create an explosion. Clapping, Bunga enthusiastically declares that the Roar is back, and startled, he whips around to face them. Awkwardly, he demands how they found him, and Rani explains that Makini and Janna suggested he'd be here - Bunga was concerned due to his constant disappearances. Bunga screams that he's using the Roar while Rani asks if he's been doing this the whole time, and Kion confesses that he has wanted to master the Roar of the Elders and use it in a way that will never hurt those he cares about.

Bunga then questions if he's told Mhina, earning him a rebuke from Rani, but he replies that he hasn't told anyone around him, not knowing what they'd think. Rani ponders about what he'll do once he completely masters the Roar, and he peacefully murmurs that they'll return home, feeling homesick for the Pride Lands. Suddenly, Cara flies up to the trio and warns them of the army of predators has commenced their full attack, and frantic, Rani hisses that this can't be happening, and not wanting to fail everyone depending on her, she adds that they're leaving immediately and finding the Lion Guard. Kion insists she and Bunga go ahead of him, and pausing for a moment, he faces Askari's spirit in the sky, thanking him for his teachings. Rushing off, he joins Rani, Bunga, and Cara, and they arrive at the battlefield. When Kion regroups with the rest of the Lion Guard and Mhina, Bunga asks about the plan, and he states that they'll try regular fighting first - if that fails, he has a backup plan he isn't able to clarify, and although Bunga tries to interject, Rani silences him. After Kion makes Mhina a member of the Lion Guard, Rani breaks their moment, snapping that it's cute, but her homeland is being driven to extinction by the predators. The Lion Guard breaks apart, with Kion and Rani distracting Reth's Pride. The latter nips Slash's heels, inviting her to tango with her, and she snaps at her pridemates that they're dealing with the "petty princess." They are quick to surround her on all sides, and Slash taunts Rani for sacrificing her dignity just to get murdered by the three of them.

Shuddering, Rani refuses to let her parents down and retorts at her to shut up, clawing at her muzzle. However, Slash enjoys the pain and instead slices her body from chin to neck, staining part of her body in blood, but even with the pain, she rises back up and tries to attack, but Kariuki tears into her flank and Alasiri kicks her nose. Dizzy, Rani hears the battle around her and realizes she is going to die, and Alasiri insists to Slash that they finish her. Gasping, she backs up, offering to let them hunt whoever they want in exchange for letting her live. Slash, laughing, proclaims that it's too late and that what goes around comes around, preparing to slit Rani's throat. Out of nowhere, Kingiza slams Slash into the ground, shocking Rani, who exclaims his name. Turning to her, he sees how horribly wounded she is and becomes sickened and irate, whipping toward them and demanding they face him. Kariuki mutters that this is pathetic, but Kingiza promises to make them rue the day for hurting Rani, calling them monsters and demons. Slash grips Kingiza by the throat and draws blood. He doesn't care, his mind flooding with Rani, her teachings, his admiration of her, and his heart swells with affection. He tells Slash that she can finish him, but she almost stole Rani's life, accusing her and Reth's Pride of being no more than warmongers who wanted to kill the lion he is in love with. Breaking free, he slashes her muzzle and kicks her back.

Alasiri remarks that he has the power of a spirit, though Slash doesn't care, stating they can still kill Kingiza. He snaps that he'll make them repent, pinning her; she throws him off, but he easily slices her belly. Rani watches him in disbelief, processing his feelings for her, and she realizes that she is just as madly in love with him, silently telling him she loves him too, wanting it to mean something in words. Meanwhile, Kion is unable to see Rani and decides to fix his mistakes by using the Roar of the Elders, stopping the villains and sending them far away, relieving Kingiza, who guides an injured Rani and Anga back to the Tree of Life. Baliyo exclaims her name, rushing toward her and giving her a nuzzle, demanding what happened, and Kingiza explains that Reth's Pride did it to her. He also mentions that he's in love with Rani, shocking everyone, and struggling to stand on her paws, she asks if it's true. Kingiza confirms it, admitting that he used to not believe in love until he met her - she taught him how to love - and he requests to be her mate. She agrees happily, licking him on the cheek and saying she's honored, slightly flustering him. With that out of the way, he calls for the Mjuzis, who lead them inside the Tree of Life to tend to their wounds. Weeks later, it is noted that Rani has almost completely healed from her wounds and had Kingiza tending to her, supporting her through her struggles. Rani, approaching the Guard with respect shimmering in her eyes, says that they are all indebted to them for risking their lives to stop the predators. Every last second was worth it, as now, all of their subjects are safe. She apologizes to Kion for ever doubting his abilities and blaming him for the predator attacks, admitting that he has everything she wants to have, and because of his and the Guard's efforts, they are all safe.

Thanking him again, her eyes soften as she notices Mhina entwine his tail with Kion's, brushing his muzzle against his cheek. Rani congratulates Mhina on joining the Lion Guard, knowing he'll be exceptional and that Kion and the others are lucky to have him.
