Rafiki is a mandrill that resides on the Pridelands. He serves as a shaman to the monarchy.
Appearance[]
His main pelt is scruffy and blue-gray in color, while his chest is pure gray. Both his hands and his feet are coated in black fur, his palms a pinkish-brown, and his muzzle matches his palms in color.
His face itself is pale blue, broken only by sky blue cheeks, navy blue eye rims, and a bright red nose. Like most mandrills, he sports a pure white mane and a long goatee of the same color. His eyes are bright yellow, and his teeth are unexpectedly sharp.
Personality[]
Not only is Rafiki in tune with the world around him, but he is as wise as his years suggest. From the very beginning, he is shown to be a respected figure, as the animals part before him during Simba's presentation to let him pass.
He is also able to recognize a good leader when he sees one, lamenting Scar's rise to power and the death of a noble line of rulers.
In recognizing good leadership, Rafiki is able to establish order once more by bringing back a lion of noble blood, convincing him of his own accountability. In doing so, Rafiki establishes himself as one with a good sense of responsibility.
History[]
Rafiki began as a lonely traveler across the African Savannah's. On his voyages, he fell upon the Pride Lands and was attacked by the trio of hyenas, Shenzi, Kamari, and Azizi. Before the hyenas hurt the mandrill, Ahadi, Mufasa's father and the current king of Pride Rock, intervened and stopped the ambush. Rafiki was grateful for the king's heroism and respected his good nature. After the incident, Rafiki befriended Mufasa and over the years, Rafiki protected the future king's life from vicious cobras and wild buffalo. After Rafiki resuscitated Scar from the wounds placed on him by Boma the water buffalo, and through his repeated acts of wisdom and bravery, Ahadi appointed Rafiki as the adviser to the kings of Pride Rock. Rafiki's knowledge on the monarchy and his friendship with Mufasa facilitated an easy transition of power to Mufasa after the death of Ahadi.

Trivia[]
- He is voiced by Morgan Freeman.
- This version of Rafiki's idiosyncrasies don't come across as mere comedic eccentricities of a crazy old mystic, but rather as a more integral and almost reverent part of the character and how he's perceived by the other animals.
