Obasi's pride was a pride of lions who lived in the Valley of Kings. They were ruled by a monarchy. The last king of the pride was Obasi, with Taka set to inherit the throne from him.
History[]
Mufasa[]
When Prince Taka found a fellow lion cub named Mufasa adrift in a nearby river, he saved him from crocodiles. His mother, Eshe, warned him that Obasi would never accept a stray, but she eventually caved to her pity and allowed Mufasa to return to the pride with her and Taka.
Upon seeing Mufasa, Obasi declared that, whenever they saw an outsider, they ate it. He told Mufasa that his name meant "king" and that Obasi himself was the king, then warned the cub to run away. Instead of being intimidated, Mufasa bragged that he was the fastest cub who had ever lived, and so, Obasi set him up to race Taka, vowing to eat him should he lose. Eshe, however, reminded Obasi that, should Mufasa win, he would live and be allowed to stay with her. Reluctantly, Obasi agreed to her terms.
To Obasi's disapproval, Taka lost the race. Furious, Obasi ordered Mufasa to live with the females of the pride and asked Taka how he could lose to a stray. Despite his father's attitude toward Mufasa, Taka immediately warmed to him and came to consider him a brother.
