You see, kids, Udugu isn't a place. Udugu is another word for kinship. It's the special bond between siblings. You found Udugu when Kion made sure Nguruma's safety was considered before his own.
―Nala on Udugu

Nala is a lioness. She is the daughter of Hasani and Sarafina, the mate of Simba, the mother of Kiara, Kion, and Nguruma, and a member of Simba's Pride. She is the queen of the Pride Lands.

She is a recurring character in Legends of the Lion Guard.

Appearance[]

Nala's pelt is tawny, while her muzzle and underbelly are paler in color. Her eyes are greenish-blue.

Personality[]

Nala is known to be a fearless and loyal friend, willing to stand up to the much larger Scar in order to help her friend assume the throne. She is also the first lioness to leap into battle, rendering her courageous and willing to fight both physically and verbally for justice. Her steadfast faithfulness in Simba and her ready assistance mark her a faithful companion who is willing to put aside her own fears in order to do what is right and help a friend. Once Nala became a queen, she grew much more reserved and wise, no longer as spunky as she used to be.

Unlike Simba, she is very relaxed in her dealings with Kiara, trusting her daughter to take care of herself. Her gentle words and sound advice serve as a softener to Simba's hard edge. Nala herself can see inside someone, and she is not one to judge for the past. She does, however, support Simba in his decisions, always standing by his side no matter what the consequences. Nala is also supportive of Kion and Nguruma, knowing that Kion is always ready to tackle duties as leader of the Lion Guard, and while protective of Nguruma, is supportive of him and his beliefs. She advises her sons when needed and firmly believes in their judgment.

History[]

Backstory[]

Nala was born to Hasani and Sarafina. She became close to her brother and learned the culture of the Pride Lands from her parents. At some point in her life, she met prince Simba, and became his best friend, not knowing that Simba's parents and hers betrothed them to each other to rule the Pride Lands. After the King's brother, Scar, betrayed and killed Mufasa and exiled Simba, Scar confirmed their deaths. He took over as king, allowing the hyenas to invade the land. For years, Simba and Nala didn't see each other.

When she entered young adulthood, she left the Pride Lands to seek help and entered the jungle, where she reunited with Simba, alive and well with Timon and Pumbaa. She convinced him to return home and defeat Scar, where she became his mate and therefore his queen. They eventually had a daughter, Kiara. Unlike Simba, Nala believed that Kiara should be more free to explore, and often helped Simba in his decisions. Nala later had two more cubs, Kion and Nguruma. Nala supports her sons' decisions and comforts them both when they are downhearted or need advice.
