Makini is a female mandrill. She is the daughter of Fikiri and Kitendo, the sister of Kenene and Xolani, and the Royal Mjuzi apprentice of the Pride Lands.
She is a recurring character in Legends of the Lion Guard.
Appearance[]
Makini's pelt is blue-gray while her underbelly is nearly pure white in color. Her mane is sandy-brown with a darker brown bottom, and as a teenager, she gains a light brown streak running through the top. Part of her legs and arms are brown, and the skin on her ears, hands, and feet are pink, with her fingernails and toenails being a darker pink. She has a slightly darker blue-gray face compared to the rest of her fur that is marked with bright aqua stripes. She has a pointed pink nose, a pink nosebridge reaching her eyebrows, and teal eyes.
Personality[]
Eager and bright, Makini is a free spirit. She loves to learn and looks up to her uncle Rafiki, as well as her sister and other family members, but can sometimes have trouble with remaining calm. This is commonly shown when she gets overexcited or stims through constant talking and excessive movement. These traits can also make her unintentionally naive, which makes her a good bone to pick for enemies. Makini is also shown to be sensitive, becoming upset with herself when she feels as if she has failed herself or her friends and instantly blaming herself out of guilt. However, she is not above apologizing and coming to an understanding, in the process growing and learning from her mistakes. Despite this, she takes pride in herself and her position and is friendly and welcoming to everyone she meets.
History[]
Backstory[]
Makini was born in the Pride Lands as the youngest daughter of Fikiri and Kitendo, and the younger sister of Kenene and Xolani. At her birth, as with her older sister, Kenene, Makini was chosen by the Spirits of the Past to be a Royal Mjuzi. As Makini grew, she enjoyed spending time with her family, developing a close relationship with her older siblings. Soon, Fikiri and Kitendo brought Makini to the Tree of Life, in order to see her uncle, Rafiki, and meet Janna, the dowager queen of the Tree of Life. After inspecting her, Rafiki agreed to take Makini on as his apprentice.
When Makini's stripes appeared on her face, and the color of her nose changed to pink, she began her training with Rafiki, and was told that she would become the Royal Mjuzi for Amira, the oldest daughter of Kovu and Kiara. Makini was introduced to the Royal Family, as well as the members of the Lion Guard, and soon learned how to contact the Spirits of the Past, and treat injuries. She became close friends with the members of the Lion Guard, and often accompanied them on missions. She also became best friends with Kohana, the daughter of Vitani, and Anga, an eagle that later joined the Lion Guard. Makini also formed a very close friendship with Simba and Nala's blind son, Nguruma, willingly caring for and helping him when necessary, and protecting him when the need arises.
