Kula and Chumvi's story cover

Story[]

At the very beginning of Scar's long reign, young Nala had no one to play with. She felt very sad and lonely without Simba, until two new friends were born into Scar's pride. They were named Chumvi and Kula.

Soon, Chumvi, Kula and Nala were the best of friends. They played and hung out together all the time, and once Chumvi even dared Nala to speak with a rogue lion called Ni. Although everything ended up fine, a lot of trouble had ensued for Nala while she tried to speak with Ni, so Chumvi never dared her to do anything again.

As the three lion cubs grew, Chumvi soon aged into a strong young lion. He soon realized just how awful of a leader Scar truly was, as he had never paid attention to it much when he was a cub. Kula's mother often spoke with other lionesses about how horrible their hunting trips were going, but was always silenced by Zira, Scar's most loyal follower. Kula began to see the truth about Scar as well. She hated how little prey was left in the Pride Lands, as she loved food, and she despised how blind - or supportive- Zira was to Scar's cruelty.

When they were old enough, Chumvi and Kula began rebelling against Scar. They didn't listen to his orders or excused themselves when he came into the "room." Although Kula knew what they were doing was probably dangerous, Chumvi didn't care. He'd had enough of Scar, Zira and desolation in the Pride Lands.

At the same time, Kula began to realize something. Every time she was around Chumvi, she didn't just feel glad to see him because he was her best friend; she felt ever gladder to see him when she came around, and she always smiled more at him these days. She'd originally had a crush on Ni when she met him, but those feelings had faded a while ago... Unknown to Kula, Chumvi also began feeling the same way towards her!

The day soon came when Scar kicked Chumvi out of the pride. It was just as well; the now grown lion had grown even more restless recently, and that was naturally what happened when young male lions were old enough.

Kula watched in sadness as her friend departed from Pride Rock. She suddenly leaped off the rock she was standing on and ran up to him. "Chumvi, wait!" she called.

Chumvi turned around. "It's alright, Kula." He said. "This kind of thing happens naturally. I'll be fine."

"The thing is... I want to come with you." Kula said shyly, looking up at her friend hopefully. Chumvi looked at her with wide eyes. "It's no secret that my feelings for you have changed lately." Kula smiled. "And I want to be with you no matter what."

Chumvi smiled, and proceeded to nuzzle Kula, who snuggled into his bushy mane. After Kula turned back real quick to bid farewell to her mother, they took off, leaving Pride Rock behind.

Scar and Zira had been watching the whole thing from a high rock nearby. "Excellent work, Scar," Zira said, nuzzling against the unfazed leader. "Now nothing can stand in the way of your rule."

Chumvi and Kula wandered for about a day, before finally exiting the Pride Lands. They knew they couldn't stick around, as Zira would eventually hunt them down. So they settled for an area just outside the Pride Lands, with much trees (albeit dead ones) and shrubs that would eventually grow back. There was also a thicket nearby.

Chumvi and Kula grew to love each other more. They had morning races, and Kula became even more of a skilled huntress than she already was, by hunting animals outside the Pride Lands. However, she had to be sparingly with her kills, as there were not many live animals left.

In time, two cubs were born to Chumvi and Kula. They were named Uhuru and Taruo. Although separated from other cubs, they became each others' playmates. Chumvi and Kula's pride was flourishing despite the drought, and they loved family life.

One day, when Uhuru and Taruo were two months old, Kula made a decision. "I'm going to pay Nala a visit," she announced. "Will you be able to watch the cubs while I'm gone?"

"Of course I will," Chumvi smiled. "See you in a few days." Kula smiled at her mate one more time before heading off.

As Kula traveled warily through the Pride Lands, its desolate state saddened her. She still missed her old home, although she was happy with her new one.

She crept behind Pride Rock and entered the area through a secret tunnel. As she looked around, she suddenly heard an unpleasantly familiar voice holler, "Sarabi!"

Kula gasped as she watched Sarabi walk towards the phony king, amazed at her dignity despite the growling hyenas around her. Suddenly she heard a voice behind her, a much more pleasantly familiar one. "Kula?"

"Nala!" Kula smiled. She nuzzled her friend. "I'm so glad to see you again," Nala said. "How have things been since I left?" Kula asked.

"Not very good," Nala answered. "But that's what I want to talk to you about."

Nala explained the whole thing about Simba's return and the plan to finally overthrow Scar. During this time, Kula reunited with her overjoyed mother. She gladly agreed to take part in, what soon turned into, the Battle for Pride Rock.

"I am TEN TIMES the king Mufasa was!" Scar suddenly exclaimed nearby, knocking Sarabi to the ground. Simba watched angrily, and lightning flashed around him. As he went to check on his mother, Kula, Nala, and the other lionesses gathered behind him a ways.

"You see them," Scar said, pointing to the hyenas after his nephew had confronted him, "they think I'M king."

"Well we don't!" Nala declared, "Simba's the rightful king." Kula and her mother helped Sarabi onto her paws again, Kula giving Scar a deep glare.

As the following events ensued, leading up to Scar's declaration of murdering Mufasa, Kula bravely fought alongside her former pride members against Scar's hyena minions. She fought off several of them, using the strength gained from her hunting to knock several of them off pride rock. And she was very glad to find out that Simba had defeated Scar once and for all!

As Simba took his place as the rightful Lion King, Kula roared in agreement with Sarabi, Nala and Sarafina. The following day, the sun came out for teh first time in a while, and some plants began to grow with the help of the previous rainstorm.

Chumvi, on the other hand, was very nervous about why Kula had been gone for so long. Had she been killed by Zira, or eaten by hyenas? He decided to take Uhuru, Taruo and himself to Pride Rock. Upon arriving, he was very glad to find everything put in order. Kula's mother was pleased to meet her son-in-law again, as well as to meet her grandchildren for the first time. They soon grew to love their grandmother.

Chumvi was introduced to Simba, as Kula was too. They also met Tojo and Tama, two friends of Simba and Nala who had been banished by Scar shortly before Chumvi and Kula were born.

Before long, the young couple decided to head back to their own territory, and bid a sweeter farewell to their friends. Kula and Tama had become acquainted in the one week's time, which made Nala happy.

Chumvi and Kula's life was now sweeter knowing Scar was gone. They never did find out what happened to Zira until her death many years later.

As their cubs thrived in their now fully flourishing home, Chumvi and Kula decided they wanted another cub. So, just as Uhuru and Taruo entered young adulthood, they welcomed a younger brother to the family, named Nkosi. He soon fit in well with his family, despite him and his siblings' age gaps. He grew to be very smart and yet sometimes reserved, most comfortable with his family. Uhuru and Taruo became curious young'ns, and theri grandmother visited them very frequently, becoming an honorable member of their pride.

Chumvi and Kula often paid visits to the Pride Lands. They never forgot their roots, beginnings, and friends they knew so well.

THE END.
