The Rogue Hyena[]
Kubariki, watching Tunu and Wema play tag, remarks that it's nice to see the little ones enjoying themselves. As Jasiri and her siblings play hide and seek with the hyena cubs, Shinda and Shinuni rush into the clearing, with Shinuni exclaiming that they need to talk to Kubariki. Incredulous, she asks what's going on, and Shinda reports that they heard an animal crying in the Outlands. Jasiri immediately offers to find the animal herself, but Kubariki tells her that they're all going, knowing this will be far more than she can handle. Tunu and Wema bound over, also asking to come, but Kubariki retorts that they are too young to go out into such a dangerous territory as the Outlands, affirming that they will be staying here with Mdalasini. The latter assures them that she'll play with them, and the clan matriarch promises to be back before sundown, urging them to not waste time. When the clan arrives in the Outlands, they discover a striped hyena - his body is scarred, missing fur, and bloodied, and one of his legs is broken. Glancing up, he growls at them to stay away from him, attempting to climb to his paws. However, the pain from his broken leg weighs him down, and he collapses onto the ground. Kubariki assures him that they just want to help, trying to explain who they are, but he only snarls and lunges at her and Mlinzi.
After he learns of the phrase "Sisi ni sawa," the hyena questions if this is the reason why he should trust them, and Kubariki doubles down, affirming that he's distressed and in pain and reminding him that he could easily fall victim to the predators that live in the Outlands. Gulping, he concedes and accepts their help. She invites him to their home in Chakula Plains, where he'll be treated for his injuries, though he anxiously wonders where that is. Jasiri explains that it's their home in the Pride Lands. Mlinzi offers for him to ride on his, Shinda, and Shinuni's backs, and slowly, Kubariki and Jasiri nudge him onto them with Madoa and Asante steadying on both sides. Kubariki urges the clan to move, as the striped hyena needs treatment as soon as possible, and they begin to make their way back to the Pride Lands. Once the hyena is treated by Mlinzi, Kubariki tells him that he's welcome to stay and share Kubariki prey until he is able to hunt on his own again. One week later, Kubariki and the rest of the clan bid farewell to the hyena, who reveals his name to be Shalo.

After the fire is extinguished with the help of Ma Tembo's Herd, Kion passes out, and Kubariki gasps in horror. However, Ma Tembo says that he and Mhina aren't dead, urging everyone to get to Mbali Fields to put out the fire there. Upon arriving, Kubariki instructs her clan to dig trenches. Once the blaze is out, Kubariki agrees with Fila that Tumbili and Bupu will provide shelter in Ndefu Grove.
