Kovu is a character in the upcoming fanfiction The Lion King: Next Generation. He is depicted in a new light as a caring, but overprotective father, who has changed much.
Background[]
Kovu has changed a lot since the days of Zira’s Army. He grew to care for his family, spending days mourning his brother and adoptive mother in secret, so that others don’t criticise him. Kovu also gains a bad temper from his grief inside, often snapping randomly, and scolding his children.
Personality[]
Kovu is normally a very caring lion, as remarked several times by Kidogo. However he grows to feel violent and sometimes acts like Zira, for example, giving Kidogo a scar after he goes along with Akili and Giza to the Elephant Graveyard.
Physical Appearance[]
Kovu is a brown lion with a dark brown mane and a light muzzle. He has green eyes and a scar on his right eye.
History[]
In a flashback, Kovu, Kiara and Vitani are talking after Zira’s death. The three are confused as to what to do next. Vitani admits that the best place for both of them was to follow their faith, and leaves for Pride Rock. Kovu goes off on his own to mourn his family.
Soon after, he returns back to Pride Rock, where he shares an even briefer conversation to Kiara. The two finally realise that someday, there will be another threat to the Pride Lands, and decide to talk over about it.
Time passes, and Kidogo, Akili and Giza are born. Kion decides to come home to meet the cubs, which Kovu refuses. He snaps at Kion, saying his cubs most never come to harm. Kiara manages to calm down Kovu, and lets Kion see the cubs, which makes everyone smile.

Time passes, and the cubs go to the Elephant Graveyard, where they get attacked by hyenas. Hearing about this, Kovu saves them, then snarls at the cubs, blaming Kidogo even when it was Akili. He gives Kidogo a scar, then steps back, and starts muttering he didn’t mean to.
When the cubs were teens, Kidogo killed Giza. Kovu, heartbroken as well as confused, was forced to exile his son, who in return started a hyena army.
When Akili was an adult, a battle started between the Pridelanders and the evil hyenas. In the end, Akili managed to turn Kidogo good again, and everyone returned home. Kovu gladly allowed Kidogo to be the heir to the throne again.
Trivia[]
- A scrapped chapter was told from Kovu’s point of view, and told how he thought Kidogo was just misunderstood and wished he never scarred him, which was what he thought started the whole thing. This chapter was replaced, and the author is thinking of either a Kiara point of view or a Giza point of view.
