It's true. Long ago, I didn't believe in love. I thought it would only weigh me down. But, then I met you, and you showed me that love comes in many shapes and forms - but more importantly, I could love...you're enamoring, Rani...can I have the honor of being your mate?
―Kingiza asking Rani to be his mate

Kingiza is a teenage male leopon. He is the son of Mayamiko and Siwazuri, the brother of Kwatile, Tau, and Zaire, and the mate of Rani.

Appearance[]

Kingiza's pelt is tan while his muzzle, paws, and underbelly are paler in color. He has a red head tuft. His eyes are reddish-brown.

Personality[]

Kingiza is shown to be very stubborn, blunt, and work-focused. He is very cunning, often devising plans of attack and voices his opinions on situations whether or not anyone asked for his viewpoint. He is also rarely persuaded to change his mind after coming to a decision, which may not be to everyone's liking. Kingiza can be very short tempered, especially if others weaker than him question his ways. Kingiza is very loyal to Mhina, and follows his orders usually without question, even if it means he may die.

History[]

Backstory[]

Kingiza was born in Leopon Plains as the son of Siwazuri and Mayamiko and the brother of Kwatile, Zaire, and Tau. As a cub, he became known for his bravery and opinionated nature. He soon formed close relationships with his siblings, and became very protective of his younger brother, Tau. During his cubhood, he met Mhina, the prince of Leopon Plains, and his adoptive brother Kopa, soon becoming close friends with them. Mhina eventually introduced Kingiza to Rani, the princess of the Tree of Life, and the two formed a close relationship, falling in love as soon as they reached adolescence.

The latter two then watch his interactions with Mhina and roll their eyes, sharing a quick, passionate kiss. When Okala, the prince of the Dusty Plain, speaks with Mhina, Kion, Rani, and Kingiza approach him. Mhina nudges Kingiza's shoulder, asking how married life is, and he chuckles awkwardly, caught slightly off guard with the question. He says that that being married to Rani is the best thing ever, feeling complete and amazed by her side. Jivin has begun to teach him about royal matters, which is intimidating, but still cool; his parents have also moved his pride to the Tree of Life and he's enjoyed showing his siblings around the territory.

Legends of the Lion Guard: The Dark Prophecy[]

Ullu brings Kingiza to Rani and the Lion Guard at Ciso River, and Mhina questions what he's doing here. Kingiza reveals that he's come to help defend the Tree of Life, and brimming with affection, Rani expresses her gratitude. He then adds how he's come to spend more time with her, brushing his muzzle against Rani, and she says that she's glad he's here. Later, Kingiza settles outside the Tree of Life. On another day, Kingiza entwines his tail with Rani, telling her that they're ready for the patrol, and he stays by her side as she leads the Lion Guard and Night Pride through Desert Plains. When Ullu reports that an army of predators is attacking Cek's Flock at Winter Woods, Kingiza participates in the ensuing fight along with Ullu, the Lion Guard, and Night Pride. Once the army retreats, he joins Rani's side, brushing his tail along her flank. Some time afterward, Rani and Fuli lead the Lion Guard, Night Pride, and Kingiza to Marsh Forest for a patrol.

During the patrol, Kingiza walks up next to Rani's side, assuring her that they'll be prepared for the next time the predators attack, and she admits that she can't let her father down. He comments that she'll be a great leader and fighter someday, and affectionately pressing her shoulder with his, Rani expresses how happy she is that Kingiza is here with them. He agrees, the two enjoying their time together. On another day, Kingiza brushes his flank against Rani's, remarking that it's an honor to be here defending the Tree of Life, and he thanks Jivin and Maya for allowing him to stay. Rani leans closer to Kingiza, pressing her muzzle to his, stating that he's always welcome to come on patrols, and Kingiza agrees that they're a good team. Later, Kingiza is on patrol with the Lion Guard and Night Pride, and seeing Mhina acting uncharacteristically, he questions what's wrong, though he lies that he is fine. Suddenly, Ullu and Cara fly up to the patrol, frantically reporting that Reth's Pride is violently attacking Saumu's Pounce in Marsh Forest. The patrol rushes there without hesitation, engaging in the battle. Eventually, Reth retreats, but not before promising that their next attack will be more violent and dangerous.

Some time thereafter, Kingiza is on a patrol with the Lion Guard and Night Pride in Marsh Forest, and he asks Fuli where Kion and Mhina are. She replies that Kion didn't tell here where he'd be, nor if he'd be with Mhina either. The patrol discusses their blooming feelings for each other, causing Baliyo to subtlety point out that Rani has fallen in love, embarassing her and Kingiza. He says that Ullu told him how much she was drawn to Kingiza the second he arrived - she still hasn't taken her eyes off of him - and Mansa even suggests that Rani wants him to join the Night Pride. Rani growls that they're the worst, but Baliyo further teases them by praising Mansa for poking fun at his sister and her "soon-to-be mate," and Kingiza whispers that this is humiliating, flustered. When Ullu and Cara report that the army of predators is attacking in two different locations, Kingiza goes with a few other Night Pride members to fight Ora's Bank at Winter Woods. Later, during the battle for the Tree of Life, Slash proclaims to Rani that it's too late and that what goes around comes around, preparing to slit her throat. Out of nowhere, Kingiza slams Slash into the ground, shocking Rani, who exclaims his name. Turning to her, he sees how horribly wounded she is and becomes sickened and irate, whipping toward them and demanding they face him. Kariuki mutters that this is pathetic, but Kingiza promises to make them rue the day for hurting Rani, calling them monsters and demons.

Slash grips Kingiza by the throat and draws blood. He doesn't care, his mind flooding with Rani, her teachings, his admiration of her, and his heart swells with affection. He tells Slash that she can finish him, but she almost stole Rani's life, accusing her and Reth's Pride of being no more than warmongers who wanted to kill the lion he is in love with. Breaking free, he slashes her muzzle and kicks her back. Alasiri remarks that he has the power of a spirit, though Slash doesn't care, stating they can still kill Kingiza. He snaps that he'll make them repent, pinning her; she throws him off, but he easily slices her belly. Rani watches him in disbelief, processing his feelings for her, and she realizes that she is just as madly in love with him, silently telling him she loves him too, wanting it to mean something in words. Meanwhile, Kion is unable to see Rani and decides to fix his mistakes by using the Roar of the Elders, stopping the villains and sending them far away, relieving Kingiza, who guides an injured Rani and Anga back to the Tree of Life. Baliyo exclaims her name, rushing toward her and giving her a nuzzle, demanding what happened, and Kingiza explains that Reth's Pride did it to her. He also mentions that he's in love with Rani, shocking everyone, and struggling to stand on her paws, she asks if it's true. Kingiza confirms it, admitting that he used to not believe in love until he met her - she taught him how to love - and he requests to be her mate.

She agrees happily, licking him on the cheek and saying she's honored, slightly flustering him. With that out of the way, he calls for the Mjuzis, who lead them inside the Tree of Life to tend to their wounds. Weeks later, it is noted that Kingiza never left Rani's side as she healed from her wounds and cleaned and soothed her. She nuzzles his chest, and purring, Kingiza brushes his muzzle against hers. He entwines his tail with hers, and heartbeat quickening, Rani leans against him before they break apart, giving each other loving glances. Mhina clears his throat, but Kingiza predicts what he's going to say and affirms that he's staying at the Tree of Life - he now belongs here with Rani, but he's proud to have defended Leopon Plains and will always be his friend.
