Information[]
Shy creatures, they typically hunt at night and sleep in underground burrows during the day, occasionally becoming diurnal hunters during the cooler winter months.
Termites make up much of their diet. An aardwolf can consume up to 250,000 termites per night. To a much lesser extent, they may also feed on insect larvae, eggs, small mammals, and birds. Their most common predators are black-backed jackals, which prey on pups and unwary adults.
Aardwolves are a species of hyena. They very much resemble striped hyenas but are smaller and thinner in size. They bear a yellowish coat with black vertical stripes. The tip of their tail and their legs from the knee down are black.
